Nikon has put out a service advisory indicating that some D5000 cameras will not power up when an unspecified part fails. And apparently a significant number of D5000's are experiencing this failure in the field, some upon being pulled out of the box. It's an either/or thing: your D5000 either works, or it will no longer power up when the part fails. Later this week the details of the recall should be available, including impacted serial numbers.
